Community Education

Community education is to promote learning and social development. A common defining feature is that programs and activities are developed to community interests. The purpose of community education is to develop relationships among individuals with similar interests. These classes are open to the community to learn hobbies and various skills.  

Classes are on a first come basis. You may sign up at ACT's office during normal business hours Monday - Thursday from 7am to 6pm and Friday from 7am to 2pm.

Ornamental Welding

This course offers instruction in ornamental welding, designed for students with limited knowledge of welding techniques.  The curriculum will emphasize GMAW (MIG) welding, plasma cutting and forming and fabricating of steel and recycled metals.  Participants will complete small projects while they learn to use shop equipment and common hand tools while creating small metal art projects to take home. No previous welding experience is necessary.  The instructor will assist with welding parts of your project if required.  Class will meet on Mondays 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for 7 weeks starting October 6th.
Photography

This is an entry level course designed to learn about digital cameras, lens, and terminology.  Students will use their digital cameras to take pictures and learn how the camera and lens work together to change or manipulate the result. Class will meet on Mondays 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for 6 weeks starting October 6th.
General Home Maintenance

This course will cover basic home maintenance and repairs including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and drywall repair. Class will meet on Mondays 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for 7 weeks starting October 6th.
Senior Fitness

This course is for students 50+ years of age looking for a beginning/intermediate fitness class.  Students will participate in warm ups, low impact cardio, toning, and stretching while standing and sitting using chairs, bands, and 1 to 2 pound weights.  Class will meet on Mondays 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm for 5 weeks starting October 6th.
Wooden Flowers

This is a beginning level class. Students will learn how to cut petals, assemble petals into flowers and attach stem to flowers. Students will make several flowers of different types. Returning students will learn different flowers. Class will meet on Tuesdays 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm for 6 weeks starting October 7th.
Small Engines

This course is designed for individuals who wish to maintain equipment with small engines.  Learn to tune up and perform minor repairs on weed eaters, chain saws, lawn mowers, tillers, leaf blowers, and snow blowers. Class will meet on Tuesdays 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for 6 weeks starting October 7th.
Line Dancing

We are offering a beginning and advanced level class. Students will learn basic steps, footwork, counts and turns of the dances introduced. The first dance will be the Cupid Shuffle.  Individuals and partners both welcome. Beginner class will meet on Tuesdays 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm and the advanced class will meet 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm for 6 weeks starting October 7th.
Intro to Radio Controlled R/C Cars & Trucks

In this course students will learn about the different scales (1/8, 1/10, 1/16, 1/24) and types such as crawlers, racers (oval and dragster), buggies, drift cars, and monster trucks.  Students will also learn about the different types of tires, servos, motors, shocks, batteries, chargers, and radios. You can take the class for $40 with the opportunity to buy a Traxxas Slash Kit you build for $299 (includes kit, battery, and charger).  The retail cost of everything in the kit is $450.  Class will meet on Thursdays 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for 5 weeks starting October 9th.
Stain Glass

This is a beginning level class.  Students will learn how to cut, shape, foil, and solder to make stained glass products.  Class will meet on Thursdays 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for 6 weeks starting October 9th.
Food As Medicine

This class will teach students what genes are and how they function in the body.  Students will learn how food talks to your genes and influences our health through their effect on body systems.  Students will become familiar with food categories (ToolKit) and how to use them in the kitchen.  Students will also choose and prepare food ingredients to optimize nutrition and influence gene behavior. Class will meet on Thursdays 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm for 4 weeks starting October 16th.
