If school is canceled in Raleigh County due to inclement weather, please confirm your testing availability on the Division of Personnel's website.

The Academy of Careers and Technology is an approved testing facility for the WV Civil Service testing program. For a schedule and additional information, please visit the Division of Personnel website.

Whether you're a first-time applicant, a returning applicant, or current State employee who wants to be established on one of the state registers of eligible candidates, your first three steps will be the same. To begin applying for jobs in West Virginia State Government, navigate to the Division of Personnel's website at, browse through the list of job classes for which applications are currently being accepted, find one for which you wish to apply, and click the Apply link.


Please note: You must have already applied online through the Division of Personnel's website prior to test administration.


If you're a first-time applicant, you'll follow the instructions below to create an account and your application, and then apply. If you're a returning applicant or current State employee, you'll follow the instructions provided and do not need to create another account or application (although you can make updates and edits to your information).

Steps for First-Time Applicants

  • Browse job classes open for application.

  • Choose one for which you qualify and wish to apply, and click on it.

  • Click the Apply button on the right-hand side.

  • Click on Create an Account. You'll need to establish a username and password, so think of them before you begin. Your username can be anything, but your password must:
    • Be at least eight characters
    • Contain at least one letter AND one number
    • Contain at least one symbol

  • Complete the account form and save it.

  • Complete your application form and name it (e.g., My Master App, Main Application, Primary, etc.). Begin listing your work and volunteer experience with your most current job and work backwards.

  • Once you complete your application and are satisfied with the information you've provided, click Apply.

​After you complete this process, you can follow the instructions in the column to the right for Returning  Applicants.

Steps for Returning Applicants

  1. Browse job classes open for application.

  2. Choose one for which you qualify and wish to apply, and click on it.

  3. Click the Apply button on the right-hand side.

  4. Log in with your username and password.

  5. Select your application. You do not need to create a new one. If you need to make changes or updates, do so and be sure to save the changes.

  6. When you're comfortable with the information and details you've provided and/or updated on your application, click Apply.

​ Repeat steps 1 through 6 to apply for each new job class.
